Commissioners approved to authorize the acceptance of a donation in the amount of $1,000 from Wal-Mart for the skate park during their regular monthly meeting.
According to interim city manager Steve Spears city crews will begin work on the new skate park in the near future. “The street projects have been completed and once they are finished with the sports complex, we will begin pouring the concrete,” Spears said.
Plans for the skate park have been in the works for over a year now. Skaters made an agreement with the City to take an active role in the planning and bringing money to the project by holding fundraisers.
“We appreciate you keeping your part of the bargain,” Mayor John Henckel said to Justin Bogle and Jake Garamillo – skater representatives. “We’re real proud of our youngsters for getting involved.”
The new skate park will be located in Cushing Memorial Park.
