(Cushing, Okla) — The City of Cushing has been closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. With a confirmed case in Payne County and an emergency declaration by the President, the City, in consultation with the Oklahoma State Department of Health, City administration and emergency response team, along with input from the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, has decided to close the Cushing Public Library, the Cushing Youth and Community Center, and the Cushing Senior Citizens Center. The closure will last until April 1, 2020. Cushing Municipal Court is also postponed until April 7, 2020. Access to the Public Safety Center will also be limited at this time. Please call ahead if you have business with either the Police or Fire Departments.

At this time, Project Heart is suspending meal service at the Cushing Senior Citizens Center. However, the City is working with Project Heart to find a way to address senior meal needs. Please watch local media and the City’s social media accounts for any updates on senior meal service.

If you have any business to do with the City, please call ahead at 918-225-0277. For the time being, the City has waived the typical convenience fee for online utility payments. Residents are encouraged to either pay online or by phone or use the drive-thru, if possible.

Dr. Don Amon, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners stated “While, no one likes to limit services or alter our daily lifestyles, the City recognizes the importance of following the CDC’s guidelines. We all would like to limit the dangers of this pandemic. By taking these measures, hopefully, we can lessen the spread of the disease and keep our vulnerable citizens safe.”

The City is taking these measures to limit the public’s potential exposure to the coronavirus. Rest assured, the City takes the health and safety of its citizens as a top priority.
