February 27, 2023 (Cushing, OK) – The City of Cushing and Hillcrest HealthCare System have executed an extension of the current lease at Hillcrest Hospital Cushing until Jan. 31, 2030. This agreement will keep Hillcrest Cushing as one of the major health care providers in the area.
“I am pleased to announce this new agreement with Hillcrest HealthCare System for a seven-year partnership,” said Michael Griffith, chairman of the Cushing Hospital Authority. “We spent over a year collaborating with the team at Hillcrest to ensure the health needs of the community are met. Hillcrest and the City are in agreement that the hospital authority will have a voice in key strategic decisions so we can operate in a more collaborative partnership.”
Hillcrest Cushing made several commitments as part of this agreement, including assurances Hillcrest Cushing will maintain the hospital as a full-service health care facility. This protects the community against hospital operators who might want to downsize the facility or reclassify the hospital as rural emergency, which would send complicated medical services to another location.
“I feel we are on the path to restoring community confidence in our hospital,” said Dee Renshaw, CEO of Hillcrest Cushing. “We will continue working to prove to residents of this community that the Cushing Hospital Authority’s trust in our hospital is not taken for granted. We remain committed to a more effective partnership with City leadership and look forward to providing medical care to the Cushing community.”
In the last 12 months, Hillcrest Cushing added new services, including outpatient wound care, in-patient medical stabilization (de-tox) to assist individuals with addictive behaviors, expansions in the orthopedic program, installing a new MRI and bringing on a new emergency department manager and new lab manager.
