(Cushing, Okla.)  Cushing High School senior, Sierra Waggoner was named the winner of the Eskridge Auto Free Ride scholarship on KOCO TV Tuesday night.  She won a $25,000 college scholarship and a new Lexus CT Hybrid from Eskridge Auto Group. Sierra’s guardian Elese Guyot confirmed she had won and said there will be a special on KOCO 5 TV on May 24th at 6:30 p.m.

Sierra was nominated by ten or so people who wrote in to KOCO 5 TV and was named one of 9 semi-finalists in March.  At that time, videos of the semi-finalists were on the television station’s website for people to view and vote.  Once the vote was in, Sierra was in the top five finalists receiving the most votes.

In an interview with Sierra, she said she would love to win the car.  “It’s the prettiest car I’ve ever seen.”  But even more important to her is the $25,000 scholarship.  “Winning that would help me have a better life,” she said.  “And then maybe I could help others.”

In spite of many challenges in her young life, Sierra has somehow remained positive.

“She is very positive,” Guyot said.  “She uses humor a lot to get her through.”

Sierra plans on going to college at Oklahoma State University and aspires to be a high school teacher.
