(Cushing, Okla.) Cushing High School senior Hunter Boykin defended his state title in the 4A boys 100m dash at Moore Stadium on Friday and Saturday. Boykin posted 11.19 time, barely edging Devon Robinson of Tulsa Will Rogers who compiled an 11.20. Defending a state title is a very tough thing to do. Hunter has always had a great attitude and was willing to put in the extra work to become a 2x state champ. Boykin will run May 20th at the Oklahoma Meet of Champions, located also at Moore Stadium where he will compete against the other 100m champions and runner-ups from each class around the state.
Also other qualifiers for the state track meet was junior, Hannah Burris who tied her personal best in the Girls High Jump with a 5-2 which finished her in 7th place. Also for the Girls freshman, Karlea Jones who competed in the Long Jump. She also finished 7th with hitting her personal best of a 15ft-10in. Lastly for the boys was sophomore Paul Giddeon. Paul competed in the 3200m run and finished 16th in a very strong field of runners.
This year’s seniors where Boykin, Jai Conley, Kyle Shenold and Calvin Mork. These seniors demonstrated great leadership for a track team made up of a majority of freshman and sophomores. The kids worked really hard this season and showed a lot of toughness. The future is very bright for Cushing track for years to come.
