Charles Wayne Barnes, longtime Cushing resident, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014, at his home at the age of 80 years.
The son of the late Frank L. Barnes and Liddie E. Neely Barnes, Charles was born on August 3, 1933 in Oolagah, OK. He was raised and educated in Cushing, graduating from Cushing High School in 1951.
Following high school he served his Country in the United States Army, and on June 21, 1957, he was united in marriage to Arlene Boyd and to this union three daughters, Janet, Sharon and Linda were born.
Charles was a hard and dedicated worker, having worked for and retired from both Hudson Refinery and Oklahoma State University.
He loved his church, the Big Creek Church of the Brethren, and had been very active in all phases of the church, from serving as a Deacon, to serving as the Treasurer for the Men’s Fellowship group, serving on the cemetery board, attending various Church camps and volunteering for anything that needed to be done at the Church.
He will be missed as a loving husband, father, grand-father and great-grandfather. He enjoyed grilling, square dancing, fishing, camping, gardening, mowing yards for friends and neighbors, or just flat helping anyone that needed help, he was there. But his pride and joy was his family, he loved his family.
Charles had a favorite saying: “God is Good, All the time”.
Survivors include his wife of almost 57 years, Arlene Barnes of the home; three daughters, Janet Rich and her husband Denver of Cushing, Sharon Barnes of Tulsa and Linda Townley and her husband Steve of Cushing; five very special grandchildren, Tiffany Myers and her husband Brandon, David Gaut, Austin Townley, Ashley Townley and J.W. Rich; six very special great-grandchildren, Aubrey Myers, Emilyn Myers, Logan Gaut, Trenton Gaut, Tanner Rich and Brant Rich; one sister, Juanita Herrin of Durant; one brother Bruce Barnes and his wife Teddi of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening, Feb. 25, 2014 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., in the Floyd Family Center, east of the Funeral Home.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the Big Creek Church of the Brethren with Reverend John Holderread, pastor, officiating.
The burial will be in the Big Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
