(Stillwater, Okla.) The 2015 Summer Games, hosted by OSU Stillwater, was a great success with more than 5,000 registered athletes the Boone Pickens Stadium was lined with an array of team colors.
On May 13th-15th team Tiger Paws of Cushing brought home a total of 18 medals, seven gold, seven silver, and four bronze. Janet said, “rain can’t stop us!” as she stood with her umbrella shielding herself from the droplets that continually fell on the first day of the event.
Many others from Cushing also attended this year, Kyles Krew and several others from Cushing Public Schools.
Each year, just outside the stadium, local Stillwater businesses set up tents in the “Olympic Village.” Some set up carnival-style games and handed out prizes while others handed out free samples or coupons for free items. This year included a free dental exam from Drumright Dental, great music from the Dr. Pepper “party truck” – along with free samples of soda, autographs from Rodeo Queens, Eskimo Joes, Orange Leaf, Wondertorium, “stop the R word” petition banner, a great petting zoo, free ice cream bars and frisbees from Southwest Dairy and OHP, inflatable slides and bouncers, along with many more givers of the heart.
Although the rain put a little damper on Olympic Village it was nice and dry for the annual dance held at Stillwater High School football field with a live DJ, rockin’ music and a fantastic bunch to dance with. If you missed it, you MISSED it!
Special Olympics is a very important part in many lives and without volunteers and donations it would not be possible for our local Olympians to attend. A big THANK YOU to each and every person and business whose donations make this possible!
All donations are tax exempt, any questions call 918-285-5400.
