Bobby Lee “Dude” Jones, a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 76 years.

Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK and will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 16, 2012 in the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Cushing, OK with Sonny Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Euchee Valley Memorial Park.

The son of the late Martin Jackson Jones, Sr. and Nora Mae (Curtis) Jones, Dude was born November 8, 1935 in Warner, OK.  His family moved to California for a short time before moving to Cushing in 1942.  Dude grew up in Cushing and entered into the United States Air Force on December 18, 1953 where he served until receiving his honorable discharge in 1957.

Dude was united in marriage to Edith Mae Bowlin on September 16, 1955 and to this union three children, Gary, David, and Beverly, were born.  Edith preceded Dude in death on October 15, 1993.  He later married Mary Lou (Yaunt) Schlegel on December 9, 1997 in Fayetteville, AR.

Following his service in the Air Force, Dude returned to Cushing where he began working as a ruff neck in the oilfield.  He continued working in the oilfield and had started Black Gold Acidizing & Fracturing in 1980.  In 1994 he sold his business and retired. 

His family will remember there many trips to Keystone Lake camping and fishing and the trips to the river with his children when they were young.  Dude loved to play poker and throw dice but his biggest passion was watching his beloved Sooners play football.

Survivors include his wife Mary Lou of the home; one son, Gary Jones and his wife Gina of Cushing; one sister, Betty Todd of Cushing; two brothers, Jack Jones and his wife Kay of Cushing and Kenny Wayne Jones, Sr. of Cushing; one brother-in-law, Tom Yaunt and his wife Sharon of Cushing; three sisters-in-law, Carol Todd and her husband Eugene of Cushing, Joann Harmon and her husband Roy of Texas, and Becky Phillips and her husband Scott of Inola, OK; six grandchildren, David Lee Jones, Jr., Greg Ledgerwood, Heather Pittman, Andrea Jones, Kristen Swanson-Lee, and Kerrie Dawn Jones; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, Dude was preceded in death by one son, David Lee Jones, Sr.; one daughter, Beverly Diane Ledgerwood; one brother, Jimmy Jones; and three sisters, Wanda Coughran, Shirley Parker, and Carolyn Vanhaun.
