(Cushing, Okla) Jim Pickard, President of the local Lions Club International, called the meeting to order today at 12:18 p.m. The agenda started with song and pledge by Lion Jerry Snyder. This was followed by prayer requests for local families along with prayer by Russ Thurman.

Pickard told the club that he still needed names for 2nd Vice President candidates for club officers. Names and recommendations need to be turned in by May 15, 2015 to fill position Delegates are still needed from Cushing to attend the Lions convention in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 25th and April 26th (2015).

Lion of the Day was Lou Griffin. Griffin introduced guest speaker Bobby Bryant, American Legion Oklahoma District 5A Commander. Bryant holds a bachelor’s degree in Business and a graduate degree in Organizational Management. He is a member of Post 108 here in Cushing, and is available to assist veterans and their family members the first and third Wednesday of each month at the American Legion Post 108, from 9 – 11 (am). Bryant told the club of the different things that the American Legion and Post 108 do locally and in Payne County for the veterans. The American Legion is based on 4 Pillars (Strong National Security, Taking Care of Veterans, Mentoring Youth and Promoting Patriotism & Honor). American Legion Post 108 places flags on veteran’s gravesites and helps with the Forgotten Warrior Program (Forgotten Warrior provides assistance in Health care, Housing, Education and Employment Training).

Representative Frank Lucas will present Roy J. Herring “Junior” with the Bronze Star (awarded for heroism, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone) at the American Legion Post 108, Thursday April 9th, 2015 at 4:30 (pm). The public is welcome to attend.

Lions Club members and guests were reminded that today is Election Day here in Cushing and were urged to vote.

The meeting adjourned around 12:50 (p.m.).
