(Cushing, Okla) Jim Pickard, President of the local Lions Club International, called the meeting to order today at 12:18 p.m. The agenda started with song and pledge by LionJerry Snyder. This was followed by prayer requests for local families including the Harp family and prayer by Russ Thurman.
Lions Club guests Alicia Richardson and Bob Roberts were introduced.
Lion Jerry Snyder was applauded by the club for all of his efforts with leading the Song and Pledge each meeting.
A report of vandalism to the front window in Lion’s Den by the entrance was reported to several club members who worked to correct the issue.
Names of Cushing Lions Club Officers and Directors (2015-2016) were announced today: President Russell Thurman, 1st Vice President Mary Kelly, 2nd Vice President Lou Griffin, 3rd Vice President Kathleen Leithner, Past president Jim Pickard, Secretary Kateri Holbert, Recording Secretary Lou Griffin, Treasurer Chuck Crooks, Lion Tamer Gerald Jolley, and Tail Twister Tom Cummings.
The Directors for Lions Club (2015-2016) are as follows: Three Year Directors are Howard Phillips, Terry Brannon, and Bob Abshier. Two Year Directors are Derek Griffith, Chris Pixler, and Buck Blake. One Year Directors are Jack Forsyth, Lewis Robinson and Vic Caudle.
Lou Griffin is looking for programs for the Cushing Noon Lions. Please let Lou know if you have a program you might like to share with the club.
Lion of the Day John Fechner introduced today’s speaker and guest Bob Roberts. Roberts was a baseball umpire for 29 years working the Big 8 and Southwest conferences, serving as the Crew Chief. He was also selected to work the NCAA College World Series in Omaha. Roberts, while working in the sports field, met Branch Rickey Jr. Roberts expressed what a positive experience it was. Rickey’s dad Branch Rickey Sr. was the owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Delegates from the Cushing Lions Club will be attending the Lions convention in Tulsa, Oklahoma this week on April 25th and April 26th (2015).
Junior Olympics’ will be held the first week of May and Lions Club members are being asked to sign up for helping with the event.
Lion Buck Blake was the lucky winner of $15.50 today in the 50/50 drawing.
The meeting adjourned around 12:55 (p.m.).
