(Cushing)– A blood drive tomorrow will go to benefit a Cushing High School graduate who is now a cancer patient at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Hayley Cochran McCarty, a 1993 CHS alum currently resides in Chicago where she is the coordinator of the math curriculum for Chicago Public Schools. McCarty was diagnosed last year with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, and needs frequent blood ttansfusions. The drive will take place at the First United Methodist Church Friday afternoon from 2-7 PM. The drive will be conducted by the Oklahoma Blood Institute, which will also swap donors for possible stem cell transplants for McCarty and other patients in need. The OBI says the holiday period is usually a time of greater need for blood donations, and encourages potential donors to turn out for the drive.
