Bette Roby, retired from Keebler Company in Oklahoma City and a Cushing resident since 1988, passed away early Wednesday morning, August 27, 2014, at her home.

Bette was born Elizabeth Phyllis LeVangie on March 4, 1931 in South Weymouth, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Russell Michael LeVangie and Lillian Edwina Barry LeVangie. When Bette was two years old the family moved to Holbrook, Massachusetts where they lived for 10 years until 1943. Bette loved school, dancing, playing the piano and spending time with friends and many special cousins and younger sister, Nancy.

In 1943, the family moved to St. Petersburg, Florida. In 1948, she graduated from St. Petersburg High School and went to work for St. Petersburg Federal Savings and Loan Association.

In 1949, she married Don Roby in Lubbock, Texas, where Don was a Geology major at Texas Tech University. Don went to work for Gulf Oil Corp eventually and came back to Oklahoma, his home state. He and Bette were blessed with four beautiful children, Kathleen, Jack, Mark and Nancy. They lived in Oklahoma City for 36 years. In later years, Bette worked for Keebler Company as a secretary and “Head Elf” for nearly 20 years, retiring in 1988.

In 1990, they moved to Cushing, Oklahoma to be near their daughter Nancy. Bette was active in her church, the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, and for over 23 years had volunteered for the Cushing Hospital Auxiliary.

She was a mom, grandma, cheerleader, a van driver, and so much more. She loved being a part of what her family and grandchildren were doing. She spent many hours at football games, band concerts, dance recitals, and cow shows.

The loves of her life were her husband Don of 64 years and her children Kathleen Snyder and her husband David of Stuart’s Draft, Virginia, Jack Roby and wife Cindy of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Mark Roby and his wife Jeanine of Tomball, Texas, and Nancy German and her husband Mick of Cushing, Oklahoma. Her Grandchildren Andy Snyder and his wife Elaine of China, Jennifer Snyder and Amanda Heisey of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Amy Waters and her husband Mike of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Leslie Lewis and her husband Will of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Kira Roby of Kearney, Missouri, and Taylor German of Ada, Oklahoma, and Michela Palmer of Tomball, Texas. Great Grandchildren KaBella Dawn German of Ada, Oklahoma, Rachel Nelson, Zoe, Destiny and Gabe Waters of Stillwater, Oklahoma. One sister, Nancy Warrenfells of Anderson, South Carolina, Favorite brother-in-law George Roby of Ponca City, Oklahoma. Also a special nephew, Joe Roby and his wife Teresa of Chula Vista, California. Along with several special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer with Reverend Mark Duer officiating.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 in the Floyd Family Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cushing Relay for Life or to your favorite charity, in her memory.
