Beatrice L. Harris, lifelong Cushing area resident and longtime Cushing business owner, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014 at the age of 86 years. The daughter of the late George P. Long and Georgia D. Hudgine Long, Bea was born on January 15, 1928 in Yale, Oklahoma and was raised and educated in this area, graduating from Cushing High School in the Class of 1946. She was united in marriage to Lionel C. Harris on August 24, 1946 in Cushing.
In addition to being very active in the family business, Bea was a member of the Council Valley Baptist Church; a member of the Eastern Star and the Hypatia Club. She was one of the first to work to establish Cimarron Towers and was very involved with the Council Valley Community and the Council Valley Extension Homemaker’s Club and Community Center. She was also instrumental in her support of the fine arts and in assisting in vacation Bible School and other Church activities.
The Harris’s received the Cushing Chamber of Commerce Community Achievement Award in 1995 for their many contributions and service to the city of Cushing.
Survivors include her husband Lionel, of almost 68 years, of the home; one nephew Chris Long and his wife Charlene of Safford, Arizona; two nieces, Kathy Twitty and her husband Garland and Patricia Mosher and her husband Richard, both of Tucson, Arizona, and other relatives and friends including the Naifeh Family and very special people, Paul and Brenda Magdeburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother Robert Long and one sister Maxine Long.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 11, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Oak Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Lehr, pastor at Council Valley Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.

The family will greet friends on Sunday evening, August 10, from 5:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Floyd Family Center, east of the Funeral Home.
