(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 55-year-old Glencoe man on probation for methamphetamine possession, who pleaded guilty to two counts of lewd molestation of a 7-year-old girl he babysat on many occasions, has been given a 15-year prison term followed by 15 years of probation, court records show.
David Dan Wells, who has known the child since she was a toddler, was sentenced last week by District Judge Phillip Corley, who ordered him to register as a sex offender on his release from prison.
Wells was being held without bail after his arrest on July 27 for failing to appear in court for a non-jury trial on July 24, court records show. Wells had been free on $75,000 bail that he posted on March 9, 2022, court records show.
Wells was originally arrested on Oct. 29, 2021, at his residence on a bench warrant for allegedly violating his probation on a 2019 conviction of possessing methamphetamine and a firearm during the commission of a felony, for which he had been given a five-year suspended sentence, court records show.
On Oct. 25, 2021, the child’s mother had reported to the Payne County Sheriff’s Office her daughter told her that Wells showed her pornographic movies on his cell phone, Investigator Lew Kellison wrote in an affidavit.
On Oct. 28, 2021, the sheriff’s investigator observed a forensic interview of the girl in which she “disclosed that Wells has a black cell phone that he used to show her bad movies,” during that school year while she was at his house, the affidavit said.
On Oct. 29, 2021, the sheriff’s investigator observed a forensic interview in which the girl disclosed that before Wells showed her the movies, he showed her his genital area that he fondled in front of her more than once, the affidavit said.
