(Cushing, Okla.)  Once it was announced roads were being closed in anticipation of the arrival of President Barack Obama, word spread quickly that Little Avenue would be the place to be for a possible glimpse.

Many of the supporters – as well as protesters – gathered in Cushing Memorial Park hoping to get the President’s attention as the motorcade transported him to his destination near Ripley.

“They sure drove fast,” Kari Purdie told KUSH.  “But I know he saw me!”

Purdie and her young sons Jack and Owen, along with her sister Ami Brown and children Whit, Chandler and Beckett came from Tulsa to show their support of President Obama.

“We wanted him to know he has supporters in Oklahoma,” Brown said.

It was the first time President Obama had visited Oklahoma since taking office.  And it was the first time a sitting President had ever visited Cushing.
