(Cushing, Okla.)  Cushing police investigated the receipt of fraudulent money orders that were received in the mail after an area resident answered a “mystery shopper” employment ad online.

In response to the online employment ad, the area resident received two money orders totaling $1,000 by mail. The instructions asked the area resident to cash the money orders and then return $900 to an address in New York. Suspicious, the area resident took the money orders to Wal-Mart where they were verified as fraudulent by Money Gram Payment Systems.

Residents are reminded that many opportunities online and by mail can sometimes be too good to be true. If you suspicion something is not right, contact the police department at (918) 225-1212. We will be glad to help you!
