(Cushing, Okla.) Known for many years as the “Voice of the PBR”, Justin McKee is returning to Cushing as the announcer for the Cushing Community PRCA Rodeo. This marks McKee’s 19th year of doing the announcing for the Cushing rodeo.
“We like Cushing,” McKee said. “Sometimes we even hang around for a while after the rodeo. And as long as they keep inviting us back – and the Magdeburgs open their home up to us – we’ll keep coming back.”
Paul, Jr. and Brenda Magdeburg play host to the McKee family each year.
“We think of it as a going to a resort,” McKee’s wife Jeannie told KUSH during a rodeo interview last year. “They are great hosts!”
The past year has brought some changes to the McKee Ranch in Lenapah, Oklahoma. The biggest, perhaps – after 16 years McKee is no longer “The Voice” for PBR.
His folksy charm, humor and knowledge of bulls, made him extremely popular with PBR fans, leaving some disgruntled about the change. In January, one blogger on the PBR Fansite wrote: “What on earth were the head honchos at the PBR thinking when they fired Justin McKee?”
McKee gave no details about how the change came about, but did say it was true – adding, “It’s been the best thing that ever happened to me. I’ve enjoyed being home and building my ranching operations. I’ve also picked up more rodeos to announce, I hope to do even more next year.”
The McKee Ranch is located in the beautiful bluestem prairie grass country of Northeast Oklahoma. McKee lives there with his wife Jeannie and their daughter Kassidy. Together, they have put together an outstanding bucking bull breeding program as well as an outstanding quarter horse breeding program.
