(Cushing, Okla.) Just after noon today (Tuesday, October 27th, 2015) the Lions Club got underway with their regular weekly meeting. On hand to conduct the meeting was Lion Lou Griffin. Griffin called on Lion Jerry Snyder to lead in the song and in pledge which was followed by a request for prayers.
Griffin then introduced Amy Jones, Executive Director of Love INC. (Cushing). Jones spoke regarding the upcoming Christmas season and the implementation of plans for the giving gifts and food boxes.
One of the changes to this year’s gifting program is the set dollar amount for all the children. The dollar amount will be based on age groups instead of a flat dollar amount per child.
To qualify for help through Love INC, you must first go through a clearing house process by calling 918-225-1125. After the initial phone call is received, someone from the clearing house will call back to ask several questions. Those questions include: the amount and source of income – including income verification; birth certificate and/or child/children’s birth certificate(s) and a current address. Love INC. services Cushing, Ripley, Agra, Yale and the Mehan area.
Donations for Christmas from Love INC are down from past years with only about 25% of what is needed having been raised thus far. If you would like to make a cash contribution, or donate your time and energy in either the warehouse or thrift store, then give Love INC a call today 918-225-1125 or go by 203 W. Moses (Cushing).
In closing, club members were notified of the pediatric and grade school eye screening dates that have been set up in both Yale and Cushing for the month of November, along with the annual kick off of Lions Fruit Sales.
The meeting adjourned around 1:00 (p.m.).
Cushing Lions Club meets each Tuesday at noon in the Lion’s Den in downtown Cushing.
