(Cushing, Okla) A new reading challenge for all students and faculty was kicked off Tuesday, September 5th, at Cushing Middle School. The All In challenge encourages all students and staff to read one designated book for the opportunity to participate in fun after school activities. The Boy Who Carried Bricks by Alton Carter, a former Cushing Tiger, was chosen for the challenge because of its strong message of hope and perseverance.
Mr. Carter came and spoke to the students of CMS on Tuesday, Sept. 5th, to officially start the All in Challenge. Books will be available for check out at school or students can download or purchase a book on their own from Barnes and Noble or Amazon. The challenge will last for approximately four weeks and students will be required to take a short quiz upon completion to participate in the after school activities. It is hoped that all parents in the community with middle school age children will get behind this initiative and encourage their children to participate.
Research supports the importance of independent reading for increasing reading skills, yet many of our students read less and less as they get older and get involved in extra-curricular activities. We would like to encourage our students to find time for reading for the joy of it again. We are looking forward to coming together as a school to support literacy and Alton Carter’s message of hope and perseverance.
