(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 78-year-old Yale man, who was viewed as a grandfather figure in the neighborhood, has been charged with sexually abusing three girls, ages 7, 10 and 12 as well as exposing himself to the 10-year-old.
Lionel Roy Thompson was arrested at his residence at 8:59 pm on March 23 after all three girls were interviewed at the Saville Center in Stillwater in the afternoon, Yale Police Officer Stephen Lombard wrote in an affidavit.
Thompson was jailed for three days until he posted a $100,000 bond conditioned on his having no contact with anyone under the age of 18, court records show. Thompson was ordered to appear in court on May 11 to have his preliminary hearing date set on the four-count felony charge.
If convicted of three counts of child sexual abuse between Jan. 1 and March 21 plus one count of indecent exposure between Aug. 2, 2019, and March 21 of this year, Thompson could be given as much as three life prison terms plus 10 years’ incarceration and $35,000 in fines.
The alleged sexual abuse came to light on March 21 after the 7-year-old told her 12-year-old sister “to tell her mother what she had told her,” about performing oral sex on Thompson, the affidavit alleged. The 12-year-old “started crying saying Thompson had squeezed her butt today as well, and Thompson told her to just let it go,” the affidavit alleged.
The girls’ mother told the officer, “Thompson was a grandfather figure around the neighborhood and would buy the kids candy, bicycle tires, and other items. He would fix their bicycles, as well as ride them around on his golf cart,” the affidavit alleged.
The 10-year-old girl said “she saw Thompson squeeze (the 12-year-old’s) butt while she was in the living room of Thompson’s home earlier the day this incident was reported,” the affidavit alleged.
During the forensic interviews that the Yale officer observed, the 10-year-old girl said “Thompson said he wished that she was his daughter so he could feel her all over. (She) said that Thompson saying this to her creeped her out,” the affidavit alleged.
Both of the older girls said that “Thompson has been squeezing their butts, which makes them feel creepy,” the affidavit alleged.
When Yale Deputy Police Chief Ken Moore and the officer went to Thompson’s home, he invited them inside and said they “could look at wherever we wanted to look at and signed a consent to search form,” Lombard alleged in his affidavit.
“I told him I would be taking cellphone and computers and security cameras hard drive to the OSBI lab,” Lombard wrote in his affidavit.
“Thompson admitted having (the 7-year-old) sitting on his lap and patting (her 12-year-old sister) on the butt and did not see anything wrong with that. Thompson denied grabbing the girls’ butts and squeezing,” the affidavit alleged.
“Thompson gave me the key to his home,” Lombard alleged in his affidavit.
“During the forensic interview, a few more names came up of some females who live in the apartments,” across the road from Thompson, the affidavit alleged.
“This report and affidavit will be updated as soon as the other families are spoken to,” the Yale officer wrote in his affidavit.
