(Cushing, Okla.)  For the past 26 years folks from all around have been coming to Memorial Park in Cushing for art, music and fun at Festival in the Park. This year should be no exception!

The festivities begin with the popular Run for the Mums 5k run/walk. Registration is from 7 a.m. until 8:15 a.m. The run begins at 8:30, with awards being presented at 10 a.m. American Legion Post 108 will present the colors at 9 a.m., followed by the National Anthem sung by Aubrey Crumpton.

Then the rest of the fun begins!

Rob Smith, Director of Lachenmeyer Art Center in Cushing, has enlisted 22 artists to participate in this year’s Festival. This is a great way to jump-start your Christmas shopping (yes, I said Christmas) by purchasing unique pieces made by Oklahoma artists.

Be sure to bring your appetite, because several non-profit groups will be selling food items, such as Indian Tacos, turkey legs, sweet rolls and more throughout the day.

AND, another tasty favorite – the annual Lions Club Chili Cook-Off! Be sure to stop by and visit with the Lions who will be set up near the amphitheater. Taster kits will be available for only $4. Be sure to vote for your favorite chili before leaving the area.  And ask them about their free eye screening, too!

The stage will be full of entertainment – from cheerleaders to soloists to Native American dancers – there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Performances begin at approximately 9:25 a.m. and end after RendevouX at 2:15 p.m.

Don’t forget – those “Boys from Oklahoma,” the Dust Bowl Brothers, will be rolling in to take the stage at noon to play some of their best original tunes. And be sure to check out Gene Collier’s booth while you’re there to purchase one of his “fresh off the press” Boys from Oklahoma t-shirts.

With clear skies in the forecast, there should be no reason musical headliner RendevouX will not be able to take the stage this year. This Tulsa group was scheduled to play last year, but unfortunately the rains came and the Festival had to come to an early close. This fun group of talented guys play a crowd pleasing mix of “danceable classic and southern rock.”
