The 50th reunion of the Cushing High School 1958 State Championship Football Season will take place in Cushing on Friday and Saturday, October 10 and 11, 2008.
It involves the classes of 1959, 1960 and 1961 and is being organized by several players from the class of ’59 including Jim Andrews, John Bryant, Steve Cubbage, Gary Harmon, Val Reneau, Ronald Taylor and Jerry Wattenburger. Darrell Raney and Gary “Bud” Smith from the class of 1960 are helping out as are Chuck Harmon and Darrell Wolff from the class of 1961.
The most pressing task is finding everyone and getting word to them ASAP. While still in the planning stages, at the present time we have a 5 PM dinner at the CHS field house preceding the Friday night home game at 7:30 PM. Head coach Hoggatt has asked some of the ‘58 team to speak with the 2008 Tigers prior to the game. The entire ’58 team will be introduced on the field at halftime.
Saturday at 11:00 AM is a Texas vs. Oklahoma football game watching party/lunch followed later in the evening with dinner at Cushing Country Club. The sooner we get confirmation of attendance, the better the planning of these events will be. While costs have not yet been determined, every effort will be made to keep costs reasonable.
This event is sure to be great fun with fond recollection of times past. Help get the word out. Forward this to anyone you believe to be interested. All the players from the senior, junior and sophomore classes in the season of 1958 recognize the championship as an accomplishment of the team for the school, the student body, the faculty and the community and prefer to share the 50th anniversary celebration with all who share enthusiasm for it. Regular mail and email will be sent to all confirmed addresses of the three classes around September 1. In the meantime, attempts are made to gather everyone’s address, phone number and email.
