(Cushing, Okla.)  The following is a letter from Cushing City Commissioner Terry Brannon to the citizens of Cushing.  Brannon is the newest elected official on the Board.

Dear Citizen:

I want to begin by asking a simple question: What is your level of expectation from your local government, e.g., City Commission, City Manager, etc.?

If you are like me, your sense of frustration, whatever that may be, is typically associated with what you expect verses what you are experiencing. I have taken the time to listen to the expectations of many, inclusive of their frustrations, regarding our local government. Perfect it is not. Capable it is. Better it can be!

Better begins with a community that says, “We will be big time out of the box thinkers, dreamers and visionaries, filled with a desire to put into action what we believe we can accomplish!” Better means we will no longer accept the way things have always been done because we expect and embrace the fact change is inevitable. Experience has shown we will continue to do what we have always done absent vision.

Better means you are not afraid to expect those elected by the people to help create a vision that becomes tangible by actively seeking input from the people they were elected to serve. Better encompasses voices from within the community that say, “I want to be part owner in a vision for Cushing that stretches me intellectually, challenges me to look beyond personal interests and see the big picture.” What does better mean for you and those connected to you?

This coming Monday, the City Commission will be conducting a second study session regarding the proposed FY 13-14 budgets for the City of Cushing, Cushing Municipal Authority, Cushing Hospital Authority, and Cushing Industrial Authority. I want to encourage you to create some margin and come to this public meeting that starts at 6:00 p.m. An opportunity for public input on the budgets will begin at 7:00 p.m.

In closing, as an elected representative I am committed to serving as best as I can. I can only do better if you make your presence and voice known. We all have a stake in the future for Cushing! Will you join me Monday evening?

Be Present. Get Engaged!

Respectfully,

Commissioner Terry Brannon
