Dear Friends,
I am a believer that “it takes a whole village to raise a child” and most certainly to support a community. Last week, as the CRH Foundation was leaving for their fund raising cruise, we were proud that our people extended a helping hand to assist us.
Cruisers were arriving at the Hospital parking lot preparing to leave between 6:30 AM -7 AM to travel by bus to Galveston. Luggage was being set out as we were waiting for the bus to arrive. We received a call from the travel agent that there was a problem, and that we would be leaving at least one hour late. The bus driver had run off into a ditch in Cushing and the bus was on high center. The bus contained approximately 10 passengers, one of them being in her eighties. The Cushing Police Department arrived at the site. They immediately put Granny into the police car for her to remain warm. Our local officers were able to keep the passengers calm, relaxed and light-hearted about the situation.
Meanwhile, at the Hospital’s parking lot, the luggage was being watched, while others went in to the Hospital’s foyer to remain warm. It wasn’t long until the dietary staff brought warm blueberry muffins for the stranded cruisers.
A special thank you goes to the City of Cushing Police Force and the Cushing Regional Hospital Security Force for providing extra security while we were gone.
Where else can this take place? These employees were reaching out to help others and were certainly were going above and beyond their job descriptions!
