STILLWATER — A Stillwater teenager has been jailed on $75,000 bond pending a July 6 court appearance on a three-count charge filed in connection with reported shots fired at the pool area of an apartment complex on E. Loveland Street.
If convicted of two felony counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one misdemeanor count of reckless conduct with a firearm, Javion D. Gentzler, 19, could be incarcerated for up to 20 and one-half years, according to the charges filed by Acting District Attorney Jose Villarreal.
Stillwater police had been sent at 11:29 pm on June 10 to an apartment complex on E. Loveland Street regarding “a call of shots fired at the pool area,” according to an affidavit by Detective Chance Whiteley.
“Witnesses stated that two males approached a group of people in the pool area. One subject fired a gun into the air while the other fired two shots toward the patrons of the pool. The suspects then fled eastbound on foot,” the affidavit alleged.
Gentzler was identified by an ex-girlfriend as “the one who fired two shots at the patrons of the pool…She said she began to leave when she saw him and then heard gunshots. She turned to look and saw Javion pointing a gun at her. She began to run again and heard two more gunshots as she ran,” the affidavit alleged.
“Another witness told officers that he had gone to his truck when the shooting occurred, so he didn’t see anything, but bullets passed close by his head before he dove into his truck for cover.
“On 6-11-2026 I viewed surveillance video of the incident and was able to corroborate that shots were fired at approximately 11:27 hours seemingly by two individuals. Their location relative to the pool and their movements corresponded with the witness’ accounts,” the detective wrote in his affidavit.
Another witness said “that two individuals approached those at the pool. She overheard someone tell them they needed to leave after some conversations. They started to walk off, and then she heard them firing guns, so she ran,” the affidavit alleged.
Detective Newly McSpadden spoke to a witness who said, “while at the pool, she observed a male in a red hoodie enter the pool area. When that male spoke, she instantly recognized him to be Javion Gentzler. She assumed when he arrived that he only wanted to start trouble, so she started to walk away from the area. She heard one gunshot and turned around to see Javion pointing a gun in her direction,” the affidavit alleged.
“Two separate individuals identified Javion Gentzler as one of the shooters and that he was shooting in the direction of people in the pool area as he retreated. From all of the witness’ accounts, there was nothing that prompted the gunfire than possibly being told that they needed to leave,” the affidavit alleged.
