STILLWATER — A Cushing couple accused of leaving their two toddlers at home alone for several hours while they were at a bar across town on Valentine’s Day have been ordered to appear in Payne County District Court on July 22 on charges of child neglect.
David Brandon Dowdy, 22, and his girlfriend, Logan Maree Folsom, 23, could each be given as much as a life prison term if convicted of the felony. The couple were arraigned on June 3 and released on personal recognizance bonds, court records show.
According to an affidavit by Cushing Police Detective Jerrod Livergood, at about 1:23 am on Feb. 15 Officer Mandy Wright was dispatched to the couple’s apartment regarding a verbal dispute involving Dowdy and his relative.
“David advised that he and his girlfriend, Logan Folsom, had been drinking at the Buckhorn located at 122 W. Broadway in Cushing. David said that (his relative) had bought him a couple drinks before they came back (to the apartment).
“David said that he had been asleep in the car parked in the parking lot and that both (his relative) and Logan had tried to wake him up, but that it isn’t unusual for him to sleep a couple hours in the car after drinking. David said (his relative) came out to the car yelling that his daughter was screaming and crying.
“David stated that he got out of the car and ran into the apartment. David said that both (toddlers) were asleep in their beds but woke up when he came in to check on them. David said that the toddlers’ diapers were changed, and they were put back to bed. David advised Officer Wright that him and (his relative) began yelling at each other due to her telling him the kids were screaming and crying.
“David advised that the kids (who were both still one-year-old) were old enough to stay home alone for a little while, due to the fact that there were cameras and Bluetooth in the residence as well as the trio only being a couple of minutes up the road. Logan stated that they had a babysitter as well.
“Officer Wright advised she observed that David had an odor commonly associated with alcohol coming from his person. He was easily agitated and used the wall outside his apartment for balance. David was unable to control his temper while speaking with (his relative.) Logan also used the wall for balance and admitted to drinking while at the bar.
“Officer Wright spoke with (the relative), who advised that she had agreed to babysit while David and Logan went out to Stillwater. (She) stated that Logan dropped David off at a friend’s house after dinner. She said that David called Logan around 7 pm telling her to bring him food.
“(The relative) wrote (in a statement) that she offered to stay home with the minor children, and Logan said it was fine. (She) advised that she and Logan picked David up and went to the Buckhorn. She said that she had purchased drinks for David while at the bar. She said that David is on probation for a DUI and isn’t supposed to be drinking. She reported that she had drunk at the Buckhorn but had not gone out to dinner with the pair.
“She advised that the two minor children were left at the apartment alone from approximately 7 pm to midnight. She informed Officer Wright that the two minor children were left in the apartment alone while Logan takes David to work on a regular basis. She said it’s only a couple minutes up the road, but it’s still not ok,” the affidavit alleged.
The trio were arrested at 2:35 am on Feb. 15 and taken to the Cushing city jail, but no charges were filed in district court at that time, records show.
The Cushing police detective said in his affidavit, “I was later requested to conduct some follow up on this case in order to collect additional evidence.” After obtaining search warrants for the trio’s phones and content for evidence of child neglect, “I later requested Payne County Sheriff’s Investigator Brandon Myers to review the data and see if Folsom’s phone locations were consistent with the accusations on the night of Feb. 14, 2026.
“Investigator Myers advised that he reviewed the data and found that Logan Folsom’s phone data confirmed that her phone pinged leaving the area of her apartment on 2-14-26 at about 7:40 pm, then arrived in the area of the Buckhorn Bar at about 7:47 pm. Investigator Myers advised the phone pinged in the area of the bar until around midnight on 2-15-26, then was pinging back in the area of her apartment around 12:22 am,” the affidavit alleged.
During a search of the phones for conversations or videos discussing leaving the children unattended, the detective found evidence including videos “consistent with what was reported on the night in question where officers received information that Logan Folsom, (the relative) and David Dowdy came home from the bar after midnight while the children were home alone,” the affidavit alleged.
