STILLWATER — A 22-year-old Cushing man on probation for robbery has been jailed on $75,000 bond pending his arraignment Wednesday on charges of shooting a friend in the rear with a handgun and possessing methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia.
Due to his criminal record, Aiidan Noah “Ace” Moreland-Owens could be given 10 years to life in prison if convicted of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He could also be jailed for two years and fined $2,000 if convicted of his two misdemeanor drug counts.
Moreland-Owens was arrested about 4 pm on June 1 as a suspect in the 5 am shooting of a man, who had dropped off Moreland-Owens’ ex-girlfriend at a Cushing house on Maple Street, according to an affidavit by Cushing Police Officer David Smith.
During a hospital interview with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the victim said that as he was walking to his car, “he heard a gunshot and something hit him in the butt. (He) felt he had been shot. (He) did not see who shot him. (He) got into his car and took off to the Cushing hospital where he was later transferred to St. John Hospital, Tulsa, for a gunshot wound to his butt. (He) did not see anyone with a handgun at the Maple residence,” the affidavit alleged.
The defendant’s ex-girlfriend said, “She and Owens were in a dating relationship up until a month ago… (She) was friends with (the victim) and hung out with him from May 31, 2026, to June 1, 2026,” when at about 4 am he dropped her off at the Cushing house on Maple Street where he was shot, the affidavit alleged.
She said she was outside when as the victim was heading to his car, she “heard a very loud ‘pow’ noise like a gunshot coming from behind her from the porch. (He) told her he had been shot in his butt. She began checking to see if he was bleeding.
“(The victim) got into his car and left. She looked backward towards the porch and saw Owens going down the porch steps with his scooter. Owens told her that he thought (the victim) was his friend. She told him (the victim) was his friend. Owens then told her, ‘It was an accident’ and then left on his scooter,” the affidavit alleged.
A man said he stayed at the defendant’s house until about 12:30 am on June 1 where he “saw Owens with two guns, one being a revolver and one being a greenish-colored semi-auto handgun. Owens was talking about needing to find his girlfriend. (He) felt Owens was acting different than usual. Owens placed his revolver up to his head and began playing Russian roulette with the gun,” the affidavit alleged.
Another man said, “On June 1, 2026, between 5 am and 5:30 am, Owens showed up at his house on his scooter. Owens was pacing around holding his head and freaking out. Owens pulled out a green Taurus semi-auto handgun and told him he shot (the victim). Owens then used the man’s cell phone to call a woman. Then Owens left 20 to 30 minutes later with the handgun tucked in the waistband and the man’s cellphone,” the affidavit alleged.
On June 1, OSBI Special agent Eli Turley processed the scene on Maple Street and located a blood-like substance out in the street, in front of the residence, next to the tree stump in the front yard, which was confirmed to be blood. No casing was located, the affidavit alleged.
No guns were found inside the Maple Street residence or the house where the defendant was reported to be staying, the affidavit alleged.
According to Payne County court records, Moreland-Owens had been convicted on Jan. 24, 2025, of conjoint robbery for which he was given a one-year jail term followed by four years of probation by District Judge Jason Reese.
