STILLWATER — A patient in the mental health unit of Hillcrest Hospital in Cushing has been charged with kicking a male nurse in the chest and punching a female nurse in the face 20 minutes later.
Aubrey Partridge, 23, of Rockford, Illinois, a male who is 6’4″ and about 291 pounds, was arrested on April 26 by Cushing Police Officer Jason Beal, court records show. Partridge remains jailed on $7,500 bond pending his arraignment Wednesday.
If convicted of two felony counts of assault and battery on a medical care provider, Partridge could be given a four-year prison term and a $2,000 fine, court records show.
Officers had been sent at 1:52 pm on April 26 to the Cushing hospital regarding a patient assaulting staff on the fourth floor, which is the mental health unit, according to Beal’s affidavit filed with the charges last week.
“I was advised a voluntary patient, Aubrey Partridge, had assaulted (a male LPN). They advised they had restrained him, then put him into isolation. (The male LPN) advised he had been kicked in the chest and then was hit in the shoulder by (the security officer’s) elbow. I was advised they were okay now, and he was in isolation,” Beal alleged in his affidavit.
About 20 minutes later, “Officers were again dispatched to the fourth floor of the hospital for an assault on staff. Upon my arrival, I made contact with (the security officer) and (the same LPN), who advised a nurse had been struck in the face,” Beal alleged in his affidavit.
A female nurse “had retrieved a Sprite to go with a snack at Partridge’s request. She stated when she went to give him the Sprite he requested, he struck her with his right hand with a closed fist on the left side of her face,” Beal alleged in his affidavit.
An hour and 23 minutes later, “Officers were again dispatched to the fourth floor of the hospital. Once there, I was advised Partridge was being released as he was there voluntarily and not on a court order, and he kept assaulting staff.
“I was advised they were concerned because he was still being aggressive and made a statement about him not being done, and he was going to jail one way or another. I entered the unit and made contact with Partridge. I advised him he was being released by the hospital, but there were concerns because he wanted to end up in jail. Partridge said yes.
“I advised him that I could do that for the assaults that had just occurred, and if he was going to give me problems. He stated he would not,” Beal alleged in his affidavit.
Partridge was arrested at 3:49 pm and transported to the Payne County Jail without incident, the affidavit said.
