STILLWATER — A 22-year-old Stillwater man has been jailed on $250,000 bond on charges of eluding a Cushing police officer, possessing a stolen car and ramming a deputy’s patrol vehicle — three weeks after he was placed on probation for drug possession in Perkins.
If convicted of a three-count felony charge on which he has been scheduled to appear in district court on Feb. 2, Trinton Wayne Sjodin could be given a 12-year prison term, court records show.
Sjodin was arrested at 4:30 am on Dec. 28, 2025, by Cushing Police Officer Katherine Hinkle, who had been advised at 3:13 am that a car had been stolen in Stillwater, according to her affidavit.
At about 4:11 am, the Cushing officer was patrolling westbound on Main Street when she saw the suspected stolen vehicle exit the Wilshire Inn parking lot and pull up to a stop sign before backing up and turning around, her affidavit said.
The Cushing officer alleged, “I followed the vehicle in the 1000 block of North Maitlen; the vehicle turned south off the roadway into a field. The vehicle turned around quickly and proceeded back on the road going northbound.
“I turned on my emergency lights and sirens. The vehicle failed to stop and turned west on Pine, then south on Linwood. The driver failed to stop at the stop sign at Linwood and Pine. We proceeded south on Linwood to Main, then went westbound reaching 75 mph in a 35-mph zone. The driver continued westbound on Main (Highway 33) leaving city limits.
“We continued on Highway 33, passed Highway 18 south, going approximately 100 mph in a 65-mph zone. I was notified that Perkins Police Department was setting spike strips on the east side of their town. As we approached them, the driver swerved all the way into the left lane to avoid the spike strips. We proceeded into Perkins city limits.
“The driver turned into the Casey’s parking lot and cut through to go onto North Main Street. Several Payne County deputies and Perkins officers joined the pursuit. The driver went eastbound across the street on Williams Road and cut through the McDonald’s property.
“The vehicle rammed into Deputy Gedon’s patrol vehicle, then went north across Highway 33 to the Sonic parking lot. It was at this time that the vehicle rammed into Deputy Gedon a second time. The vehicle continued eastbound on Highway 33 back towards Cushing.
“Payne County took the lead of the pursuit, and we continued eastbound on Highway 33 out of Perkins city limits. The driver began slamming on the brakes, swerving into the lefthand lane and speeding back up to unsafe speeds. The vehicle turned northbound on Parrotte Road. The vehicle lost control and began spinning on the dirt road.
“Officers approached the vehicle at gunpoint, and the driver was commanded to put the vehicle in park. The driver refused, and a deputy observed a shotgun in the passenger seat. Ultimately, the passenger and driver’s side windows were broken using emergency window breakers. Myself and deputies pulled a male out of the driver side window and at approximately 4:30 am placed him under arrest.
“Upon searching the male’s person, I located brass knuckles, a clear glass pipe with white crystal-like substance inside and a wallet containing a driver’s license, which identified him as Trinton Sjodin,” the Cushing officer alleged in her affidavit. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine, the affidavit alleged.
