(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 65-year-old Tulsa man pleaded guilty Wednesday to repeatedly sexually abusing a 16-year-old relative when he lived in Cushing in 2023, court records show.
Thomas Wayne Spencer was jailed for a year on $150,000 bond until last August when he was released on $15,000 cash bail with an ankle monitor, court records show.
Spencer was remanded to the Payne County Jail Wednesday by Associate District Judge Michael Kulling, who ordered a pre-sentencing investigation on him.
Spencer was ordered to reappear before the judge on Aug. 5 at which time a date would be set for his sentencing hearing, court records show.
Spencer had been arrested on Aug. 30, 2023, by Cushing Police Detective Jerrod Livergood, according to his affidavit.
After the child’s mother became suspicious, on Aug. 3, 2023, she gave police some notes from a therapist to whom the child “disclosed some alarming information,” the affidavit said.
On Aug. 21, 2023, the child’s mother provided additional documentation from the therapist including that Spencer had thrown some items “out of the window on a dirt road to get rid of the evidence,” the affidavit said.
“With the help of Payne County Deputy Scott Hopper, the bag was located and collected as evidence,” the affidavit said.
After the detective collected Spencer’s DNA with a search warrant, he told him that a sack with evidence was found, the affidavit said.
Child sexual abuse is punishable by up to life in prison, court records show.
