STILLWATER — Former Oklahoma State University football player Chance Robert Clements, 22, of Stillwater, who has been accused of threatening to publish sensitive visual images of a man and the man’s girlfriend unless he paid Clements money and ended the dating relationship, has been ordered to appear before a Payne County judge this week on a docket at which he can seek a preliminary hearing on a charge of violating the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.
If convicted, Clements could be given as much as a 10-year prison term and a $100,000 fine, according to the felony charge filed on June 16.
Clements had been arrested at his residence at 7:10 am on April 23, Stillwater Police Detective Kurt Merrill wrote in an affidavit.
On Feb. 13, a man had received an Instagram message in which the sender claimed to have hacked into the Snapchat account of the man’s girlfriend, the affidavit alleged.
In the message, the sender “threatens to sell the contents of the Snapchat account and release the files to family and friends unless (the man) pays a sum of $10,000,” the affidavit alleged.
After a search warrant was served to Google in April, “The data supplied by Google provided a username, account holder, and billing name which were all shown to be Chance Clements,” the affidavit alleged.
“On April 23, 2025, a search warrant was served on the defendant’s residence,” where Clements was advised of his rights and agreed to speak to the detective, the affidavit alleged.
“The defendant admitted to attempting to extort money from (the man) during that interview,” the affidavit alleged.
“The defendant was arrested for extortion and violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act,” the affidavit alleged.
Clements was released that same day on $5,000 bond, court records show.
