(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Ponca City teenager accused of possessing a stolen pickup, eluding Stillwater police, being a convicted felon in possession of a gun, and having tobacco under the age of 21 has been jailed on $25,000 bail pending a Feb. 3 court appearance at which he can seek a preliminary hearing on a four-count charge in Payne County.
Brayson Michael Ray Dodge, 18, was arrested at a minister’s house in Stillwater at 8:36 am on Dec. 16, 2024, a month after he was placed on eight years’ probation in Kay County for attempted assault and battery with a deadly weapon and possessing a firearm after adjudication as a delinquent child in Ponca City, court records show.
Stillwater Police Officer Chase Mobus alleged in an affidavit that he was on routine patrol in a marked police car when he saw a black Ford pickup driving west in the eastbound lanes in front of him on 12th Avenue.
“The vehicle reacted to my presence and turned north on Walnut St at a high rate of speed,” in the residential neighborhood, the officer alleged in his affidavit.
Continuing at a high rate of speed at Western Rd. and Hall of Fame Ave., “The vehicle drove around a vehicle in the left turn lane at a red light and drove through the intersection,” the affidavit alleged.
“The vehicle almost struck a vehicle just north of the intersection of Hargis Western Rd. and Lakeview Rd. nearly causing a collision and driving on the shoulder of the road,” the affidavit alleged.
“The vehicle turned onto Wright Dr. and continued to a gravel road to the northwest and destroyed a gate to continue down the gravel road. The occupants bailed out during the brief time that I lost visual on them and left the vehicle in drive,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.
A short time later, one of the occupants was located in the 2200 block of W. Lakeview Drive and arrested, the affidavit alleged. That male, who allegedly confessed to stealing the truck and attempting to flee, has not been charged, court records show. The vehicle had been stolen in Ponca City, the affidavit alleged.
“Sgt. Hansen informed me that the second suspect, later identified as Brayson Michael Ray Dodge, had been located elsewhere in Stillwater,” at a minister’s house, the officer wrote in his affidavit.
“Brayson confessed to the pastor that he was the passenger in the vehicle and had been running from the police. He confessed to having the gun and not wanting to get caught with it,” the affidavit alleged.
“The gun had been hid in the house in a drawer in the living room area of the house. I ran the firearm via dispatch and was informed that it was stolen,” from the man whose pickup was stolen, the officer alleged in his affidavit.
“A tobacco product was found with his pants and belt, which he took off inside the house. They were muddy from fleeing from police through a field,” the affidavit alleged.
If convicted of the four-count charge, Dodge could be given as much as a 20-year prison term and fines totaling $ 20,050, court records show.
