(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 34-year-old Oklahoma City man whose vehicle was searched after he was arrested for driving under suspension has been jailed on $100,000 bail pending a Dec. 2 court appearance at which he can seek a preliminary hearing on a charge of trafficking methamphetamine in Perkins.
If convicted of possessing more than 20 grams of the drug, Steven Vongdara could be given a prison term of 20 years and a $100,000 fine, court records show.
Vongdara was arrested at 9:05 am on Oct. 30 at Main and Freeman in Perkins after a traffic stop regarding a third brake light not working, according to an affidavit by Perkins Police Officer Hunter Bradley.
“He handed me his passport and stated that he did not have his license on him,” which turned out to be suspended, the Perkins officer alleged in an affidavit.
“While waiting for the tow truck, I conducted an inventory of the vehicle,” and found a sock containing two pieces of a sack that were tied — both pieces having a white crystalline substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, the officer alleged in his affidavit.
“I also located a ‘Big Gulp’ cup in the cupholder in the front seat that had a glass smoking device, and another small bag made from the sack,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.
When the three bags were weighed at the Perkins Police Department, they had a combined total weight of 28.9 grams, the affidavit alleged.
