(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 61-year-old Stillwater man accused of punching a woman in the face, possessing cocaine with intent to distribute, and having marijuana along with drug paraphernalia has been jailed on $10,000 bail pending a June 4 court appearance on a four-count charge.
If convicted of all counts, Jay Darren Stormont could be incarcerated for 14 years and fined $102,500, court records show.
The woman, who had been a passenger in Stormont’s pickup, was covered in blood and running toward his patrol car when he saw her at 12:58 am on April 29, Stillwater Police Officer James Hansen wrote in an affidavit filed last week.
While the officer left to stop Stormont in his pickup at 8th and Washington, other officers contacted the woman, who “had blood coming from her nose and mouth,” the affidavit alleged. The woman said that she and Stormont were traveling to her residence when they began arguing, the affidavit said.
“She stated that Jay began punching her in the face with his right fist. She stated he would slow down and then reach across the cab of the pickup and placed both hands around (her) neck and began to squeeze.
“She stated she never lost consciousness, but it was hard to breathe for a brief moment. She stated she was able to defend herself and kicked and scratched Jay several times. At the hospital, it was confirmed that (she) sustained a broken nasal bone, a concussion, and contusions to the face and eyes,” the affidavit alleged.
“Jay was subsequently placed under arrest for aggravated assault and battery,” the affidavit said.
When he was searched, the officer found a plastic baggy containing a white powdery substance that field tested as cocaine, a cut straw and a second baggy with white powdery residue, as well as $554 cash in his wallet, the affidavit alleged.
In the cab of his pickup, police found a lunch bag containing $142, a digital scale with white powdery residue, 50-100 baggies consistent with drug packaging, a white funnel with residue, rolling papers, more baggies and a bottle containing what appeared to be hallucinogenic mushrooms, the affidavit alleged. Also, in his pickup police found a bottle with a substance field-tested as marijuana and a small “pen style” smoking pipe containing burnt marijuana residue, the affidavit alleged.
When the officer saw Stormont, he had blood running down his nose from a small cut, as well as several small cuts on his right arm, the affidavit said.
“Jay stated that he and (the woman) were not in a dating relationship and were friends,” but they began arguing when he was driving her home, the affidavit alleged.
“He stated that she began hitting him in the head, so he pushed her back to the seat with his right hand. He stated that she continued to hit him until he stopped his truck,” the affidavit alleged.
“He stated he exited his vehicle and (she) then threw a cup of beer on him and she got out of the vehicle,” the affidavit alleged.
