(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 62-year-old Cushing man with a prior conviction for possessing stolen property has been ordered to appear in court on Nov. 15 on charges of being a felon in possession of guns, driving on a suspended license in Cushing, and possessing methamphetamine.
After a traffic stop during which Steven Lynn Anderson was arrested for driving under suspension on Aug. 29, Cushing Police Officer David Smith found methamphetamine in a bag in his pickup truck, and other officers “located several different calibers of ammunition in different containers,” an affidavit alleged.
“I observed the ammunition and there was 9 mm, .22, .40 S&W, 12 gauge, and 30-06 ammunition. I also located a paper shooting target-bullseye style, and a deer processing knife kit. There were no weapons located in the pickup,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.
After obtaining a search warrant for Anderson’s residence on N. Noble Avenue in Cushing, the officer found a loaded six shot .22 revolver in a leather holster in a dresser next to the bed, and a loaded 30-06 bolt action rifle with scope between the mattress and box spring in the front room, his affidavit alleged.
“I also located a .22 bolt action pistol with the trigger assembly, a 50 cal CVA Wolf Barrel, a .177 cal break-over pellet rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun barrel, and a gray bolt action rifle stock,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.
“Anderson advised he needs to protect himself. I replied and advised Anderson that he could not possess a firearm due to his convicted felony status. Anderson advised me he could and as soon as he gets out of jail, he will get another firearm,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.
Anderson remains free on $50,000 bail, court records show.
