(Stillwater, Okla.) — A homeless teenager accused of attempting to elude Stillwater police, driving a Lexus at an officer who was narrowly missed, possessing the drug alprazolam with intent to distribute, having marijuana, possessing a used syringe, and driving without a license has been jailed on $75,000 bail pending an Aug. 7 court appearance.
If convicted of his six-count charge, Braden Lee Rhoads, 18, of Stillwater, could be incarcerated for 24 years plus 30 days and fined $117,300, court records show.
Detectives with Stillwater Police Department’s Special Project Unit were attempting to conduct a traffic stop at 14th and Perkins Road at 1:44 pm on June 16 when the suspect eluded officers and continued westbound on 14th at a high rate of speed, a news release said.
“The suspect turned back east on 12th Street and traveled through various neighborhoods before striking a telephone pole in the area of 16th and Springfield. The suspect continued towards Couch Park and then turned back west on 12th Street.
“The pursuit was terminated due to the unsafe speeds through city streets. The suspect was last seen traveling westbound on 10th Street from Washington,” the news release said.
“At 2:09 pm, an observant resident called in on a suspicious male hiding in the 1100 block of S. Ridge. SPD officers responded and were able to locate the suspicious male,” identified as Rhoads, the pursuit suspect, who was arrested, the news release said.
“Officers located the crashed vehicle in the area of 1100 S. Willis,” the news release said.
