(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 26-year-old Stillwater man avoided a jury trial this week by accepting a plea bargain with the prosecution for a five-year prison term in a home invasion and armed robbery at an apartment on E. McElroy at 4:26 am on March 10, 2021.
Glen Lee Caswell, who pleaded guilty to the charges last week, told Associate District Judge Stephen Kistler that he was now taking medication for a mental health issue and doing much better in the Payne County Jail where he has been held for the past eight months.
On his release from prison, Caswell must serve five years of probation, undergo a substance abuse evaluation, follow any recommendations, take random drug tests, provide a DNA sample and pay a $960 prosecution fee, the judge ordered.
Caswell was identified by two women as the masked man who broke in and robbed them by using a pistol with black grips and a silver frame, according to an affidavit by Stillwater Police Officer Greg Calloway.
When the officer asked one woman “to explain to me how she knew that this person was actually Glen Caswell,” she said she was in drug court with his girlfriend, the affidavit said. “She told me that she was friends on Facebook,” with Caswell and his girlfriend, the affidavit said.
“She knows Glen has several tattoos including several arm and hand tattoos that she positively identified during the incident,” the affidavit said.
One woman said she was sleeping on a couch at the other woman’s apartment when she heard someone banging on the door and went to look through the peephole, but it appeared covered up, the affidavit said.
As the other woman’s boyfriend “was making his way to the front door, the front door burst open and a subject by the name of Glen Caswell entered wearing a mask over his face,” the affidavit said.
She said, “Glen had a pistol in his hand and subsequently hit (the boyfriend) with it knocking him to the ground,” before demanding money, the affidavit said. She said Caswell put money in a black backpack, the affidavit said.
She said,” she was extremely scared during this encounter because Glen kept telling everyone he was going to shoot everyone if in fact they did not cooperate,” the affidavit said. She said, “after Glen took everything that he could take, he exited the apartment,” the affidavit said.
