(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Glencoe man accused of using a knife to threaten a male customer in the Walmart parking lot on Perkins Road has been freed on $5,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing on Feb. 2, 2022, on a felony charge of assault with a dangerous weapon.
If convicted, William Bryson Ekahi Endrina, 44, could be given as much as a 10-year prison term and a $5,000 fine, court records show.
Endrina was arrested at 2:17 pm on Nov. 1 in a Walmart parking lot, about 15 minutes after Stillwater Police Officer Chance Whiteley was sent there on a report of a disturbance, his affidavit said.
“I was quickly told by two witnesses that William Bryson Ekahi Endrina had produced a knife in response to some sort of argument. I placed William in handcuffs and reached into his right front pants pocket and removed a black and blue folding knife,” the officer alleged in the affidavit.
Endrina “told me he was disciplining his child when (the customer) confronted him for his discipline of his kids. He said he told (the customer) to leave him alone, so he pulled a knife and stood his ground, telling him to leave and not to come near him or his family.
Endrina “said he believed (the customer) could have pulled a gun on him. I asked if (the customer) gave him any reason to believe he had a gun or would produce one and he said no. I asked if (the customer) got close to him or threatened to harm him in any manner and he said he did not. William kept saying he did not move toward (the customer) with the knife but couldn’t articulate any reason he was fearful or that (the customer) did anything to indicate he wished to assault him other than ‘he could have pulled a gun.’
“I advised William that there were multiple surveillance cameras covering the parking lot and that I would be reviewing the video. He then said that he did walk across the lane to the adjacent parking stalls where (the customer) was standing, but not all the way to him. He said he did have the knife in his hand as he approached, but it wasn’t open,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.
The customer told Stillwater Police Officer Zachary Gulick, “he heard children screaming as he was walking toward the store. He stopped in the lane, opposite of William and his kids and asked William what was happening, never approaching more than halfway across the lane of travel. He said that William instantly became aggressive and walked over toward him, yelling at him to mind his business and telling him he needed to leave. (The customer) said he remained on his side of the lane and told him that he was free to remain where he stood in the parking lot.
“William returned to his vehicle momentarily and when he noticed (the customer) hadn’t left, he (William) began to yell again and started walking quickly toward him. (The customer) said he could see that William, this time, was holding something in his hand, but due to macular degeneration he couldn’t make out the object. He gathered by William’s demeanor it may have been a weapon so he began asking William what he had in his hand, but he wouldn’t answer.
“He said William quickly approached him telling him ‘you’re in my face,’ which confused (him) because William was the one acting aggressively and approaching him. (The customer) told him that he was the one who needed to back up. William eventually returned to his vehicle,” the affidavit alleged.
A witness said that the customer “was not being aggressive but was monitoring the situation with William and his kids from across the alleyway. He had observed that William had been acting aggressively toward (the customer). William approached (the customer) once, and then walked back to his car.
“A moment later, William produced a knife from the trunk of his car, opened it, and began marching toward (the customer), speaking aggressively with him. William eventually walked back to his car and backed out of his parking spot, striking two cars while doing so,” the affidavit alleged.
Another witness said, “he observed William remove a knife from his vehicle and yell to (the customer), ‘let’s go mother f…..’ He indicated that he didn’t observe (the customer) engage in any threatening behavior,” the affidavit alleged.
