(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Stillwater man and woman have been jailed on $75,000 bail each pending their arraignments this week on charges accusing them of robbing a man in his motel room by repeatedly punching him in the face, and also possessing a pistol while being a convicted felon.

If convicted of both counts, former Cushing resident Derek Allen Davis, 39, who has an extensive criminal record, could receive a minimum 30-year prison term for first-degree robbery plus one to 10 years of incarceration on the gun charge.

Due to her criminal record, Kelsey Nicole Black, 35, could receive a minimum 10-year prison term for first-degree robbery plus one to 10 years of incarceration on the gun charge if convicted of both counts.

A man reported at 1:43 pm on March 14 that the couple took belongings from him and his motel room on West Sixth Avenue, Stillwater Police Officer Zachary Gulick alleged in an affidavit filed in court records last week.

The man said that Davis punched him in the face repeatedly before he fell to the floor where Davis pinned him by placing his foot on the man’s head, the affidavit alleged.

The man said that he believed Black then took his cell phone from his pocket, the affidavit alleged.

The man said “he was told by Derek Davis not to call the police or Derek would have his friends come find (him),” the affidavit alleged.

Davis and Black, who were charged as robbery co-defendants, were arrested at Black’s Stillwater residence where Davis said he had been staying for about a week, the affidavit alleged.

During a search of Black’s residence, the man’s cell phone and a pistol were found, the affidavit alleged.

According to court records and the state Department of Corrections, Davis was living in Cushing when he was convicted in June of 2019 of conspiracy in Noble County and placed on five years’ probation that the prosecution is seeking to revoke at a May 20 hearing.

Previously, Davis had been convicted of manufacturing methamphetamine in Perkins in 2010, as well as possessing pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture the drug and making the drug in Payne County in 2009, for which he was given three concurrent five-year prison terms of which he served about half prior to his release in April of 2014.

Black had been convicted of drunk driving and child endangerment in Payne County in 2014 for which she was given a six-month jail term followed by four and one-half years of probation in 2017, when she also received the same concurrent sentences for drunk driving and possessing drugs in 2012, as well as possessing marijuana and amphetamine in 2010 following her termination from Drug Court in 2014. Black had been placed on one and one-half years of probation in 2010 for drunk driving in Texas, DOC records show.
