(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Cushing man, who was arrested two days before Christmas, has been jailed on $7,500 bail on a charge of possessing a car reported as stolen in Denton, Texas, according to an affidavit by Payne County Sheriff’s Deputy Dalton Ross.
Treymane Lamar Tyler, 34, has been ordered to appear in court on Jan. 5 on the felony charge punishable by up to two years in prison on conviction.
Tyler was arrested at 8:48 am on Dec. 23 in the 800 block of S. Euchee Valley in rural Cushing where the car with a Texas license plate was parked in a driveway with a black truck parked in the road behind it, according to the deputy’s affidavit.
“Tyler was agitated and yelling when I approached him,” the deputy wrote in his affidavit. When the deputy talked to a man in the truck, “He advised me he was familiar with the owner of the residence and stopped to question Tyler what he was doing.
“He said he observed Tyler messing with the keypad that opens the gate to the driveway. He said Tyler became aggressive and started to yell at him through his passenger-side window of the truck,” the affidavit alleged.
“I asked Tyler what his relationship was with the house. He told me he had just inherited the house. Tyler seemed confused and was not making sense to me. He was unable to stand still and became irritated with me asking questions. Dispatch advised me the vehicle was reported stolen out of Denton, Texas,” the deputy alleged in his affidavit.
“I approached Tyler and questioned him about the car. His attitude changed; he became soft-spoken and somewhat polite. He advised me that his friend let him borrow the car. He told me his friend lived in Denton, Texas, and he had it for about a day. I advised him the car came back stolen,” the deputy alleged in his affidavit.
“Tyler tried to walk away from me after I placed him in handcuffs. I grabbed his left arm to keep him from walking away. I then attempted to search him for weapons. Tyler began to try and pull away from me and resist my efforts. I placed him in a wrist lock and had to use force to gain control of him until he complied and stopped trying to resist my efforts,” the deputy alleged in his affidavit.
After Tyler was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, “Inside the center console, I located a clear glass smoking pipe that contained a burnt residue. Through my training and experience, I know this to be a method of ingesting illegal narcotics such as methamphetamine,” the deputy alleged in his affidavit.
“Once at the jail, a further search of his clothing revealed four credit cards, all with the name of the registered owner of the vehicle. Two Texas lottery scratch-off tickets were located as well that were new and unscratched,” the affidavit alleged.
