(Stillwater, Okla.) — An ex-convict from Glencoe has been jailed on $500,000 bail on charges of pointing a loaded gun at a Cushing woman to whom he allegedly made threatening statements, attempting to elude a Cushing police officer, transporting a loaded firearm that was reportedly stolen in Coyle, and possessing the drugs methamphetamine and Xanax, all on the day before Thanksgiving.

Former Cushing resident Jesse Donald Baker, 27, who was released from prison 10 months ago, remains in the Payne County Jail pending a Jan. 6, 2020, court appearance at which he can seek a preliminary hearing.

Cushing Police Officer Cody Carpenter was dispatched at 12:27 p.m. the day before Thanksgiving on a report that a man was making threats to a woman at a house in the 1000 block of W. Moses — where the officer had previously responded for a male shooting at the residence, his affidavit alleged.

“When I arrived on scene, I observed a black vehicle with a single male occupant inside. MPO Thomas was on scene with me and began giving commands to the male occupant,” who did not respond and took off northbound on Harman at a high rate of speed,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.

During an ensuing pursuit, the vehicle ran three stop signs — first at Hartman and Oak, then at Oak and King’s Highway , and then at King’s Highway and W. Main Street where the vehicle collided with a Ryder rental truck, the affidavit alleged.

“After the collision occurred, the male occupant exited his vehicle via the driver’s side window and approached a black Ford Mustang with paper tags.

“The male occupant attempted to get inside the Ford Mustang by pulling on the driver’s side door handle.

“Inside the vehicle was Joshua Brillo, who is an off-duty Haileyville Police Department officer, and his family.

“Brillo stated he had his weapon drawn, but did not fire on the male attempting to get inside his vehicle. Brillo stated he wanted to press charges,” the affidavit alleged.

“MPO Thomas and I witnessed the attempted robbery as we pulled past the wreckage,” where they ordered the suspect to the ground with their weapons drawn, the Cushing officer alleged in his affidavit.

After Baker was handcuffed by Thomas, Baker complained of pain and was searched before being taken to the Hillcrest Hospital in Cushing, the affidavit said.

When Baker’s vehicle was searched, “MPO Thomas located a grey firearm with wood grips under the right front passenger seat. The firearm was loaded with a round in the chamber and a full magazine. There was also a spare magazine found inside the vehicle as well. The serial number of the firearm was run and it came back as stolen out of Coyle, Ok.” the affidavit alleged.

As Baker was being transported to the Cushing hospital, “he advised MPO Hall of possible narcotics he had,” that he said he tried to give to someone at the accident scene, but was unsuccessful, the affidavit alleged.

“I retrieved a small plastic baggy with crystal-like substance in it and a small plastic baggy with a green pill inside that Baker advised was a Xanax bar,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.

About 90 minutes later, the officer went back to the Cushing house to speak to the woman, who said “Baker was in her driveway making threats to kill her and to kill himself,” the affidavit alleged.

She said “Baker had a dark-colored pistol in his hand and was pointing it at her and himself. (She) stated when we arrived on scene, Baker put the gun out of sight and then took off from the residence,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.

The crystal-like substance tested positive for methamphetamine, the affidavit alleged.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and Payne County court records, Baker had previously been convicted of:

* possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and using a firearm in the commission of a felony in 2015, for which he was originally ordered into the Payne County Drug Court in January of 2017, but after he was terminated five months later, he was given concurrent prison terms of 20 years and 10 years, with the balance to be suspended on his completion of a long-term treatment program in custody;

* possession of a stolen vehicle in Cushing in 2017, for which he was given a concurrent five-year prison term, with the balance suspended when he completed that treatment program in February of this year.
