(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Cushing man has pleaded guilty to giving a 14-year-old girl approximately 10 shots of vodka and molesting her in his bedroom at Timber Ridge Apartments.

Landon Scott Doughten, 22, was ordered last week to serve one year in the Payne County Jail followed by nine years of probation, pay $185 restitution, register as a sex offender within three days of his release, provide a DNA sample, and pay for the cost of his incarceration as well as other assessments, court records show.

Doughten has been held in jail for the past seven months, court records show.

The girl’s mother reported at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 3, 2018, that her daughter had been sexually assaulted by Doughten at Timber Ridge Apartments, according to an affidavit by Cushing Police Officer Garvis Scott Thomas.

She said she was at work the previous night when her daughter called her upset and said Doughten, a neighbor, “got her drunk and raped her,” the affidavit said.

When she returned home, “she found her daughter very intoxicated and stumbling around,” the affidavit said. She said her daughter had vomited, the affidavit said.

She said she encouraged her daughter to report it to the police that night, but her daughter did not want to “due to being scared,” the affidavit said.

She “reported her daughter and Doughten were acquaintances and were not in a romantic relationship…(she) stated her daughter had never been drunk before and had not previously had sexual intercourse,” the affidavit alleged.

When the girl had a sexual assault exam at Stillwater Medical Center at noon on Nov. 3, 2018, the nurse “reported no finding,” the affidavit said. Doughten was subsequently ordered to stand trial on a charge of lewd molestation, not rape, court records show.

The girl, who was interviewed at the Saville Center in Stillwater on Nov. 14, 2018, said “she did not have a relationship with Doughten and did not consider him a friend,” but they met through a mutual friend and sometimes exchanged messages on Facebook Messenger, the affidavit said.

She said “she had not spent any time or hung out with Doughten prior to this incident. She told (the forensic interviewer) she believed Doughten liked her, but she did not feel the same about him,” the affidavit said.

On the day of the sexual assault, she “described hanging out with Doughten after he had messaged her,” the affidavit said.

She described the apartment where Doughten “lived with his dad, but he was not home on this date, due to being in the hospital for a broken collar bone,” the affidavit said.

“While at Doughten’s apartment, (the girl) reported he offered her alcohol and poured her shots of vodka,” with root beer, the affidavit said. She “estimated she had approximately 10 shots and Doughten had two or three himself,” the affidavit said.

The girl said while they were drinking, her mother came to Doughten’s apartment to get her phone, saw a bottle of liquor and told her to stop drinking, the affidavit said.

The girl said that her mother and Doughten took her back to her own apartment before her mother left for work, the affidavit said. She “stated her mother and Doughten had to help her up the stairs because she was intoxicated and falling,” the affidavit said.

After her mother went to work, the girl went back to Doughten’s apartment, the affidavit said.

She said “Doughten had told her mom he was going to work that evening, but he never went to work and instead stayed with her,” the affidavit said.

She said “when she got tired, Doughten brought her to his bedroom and put her on his bed,” where she said she vomited twice on herself and Doughten changed her shirt and put a large white T-shirt back on her, the affidavit said.

While this was happening, the girl said “she was unable to speak, could not move her mouth to talk and was unable to open her eyes,” the affidavit said.

She said that she was scared and remembered her clothing coming off her body, the affidavit said.

She said “when Doughten left the room, she rolled off the bed and crawled toward the door to try to leave,” but Doughten “found her on the floor, picked her up, put her in the front room and told her to stay there,” before helping her back to her apartment, the affidavit said.

She said that when she was inside her apartment, she shut the door, locked it and began crying, the affidavit said. She said she then called her mother, who came home, and told her what happened, the affidavit said.

She said “she messaged him the night it occurred and asked him why he had done what he did. She reported Doughten denied it happened. She said she had not spoken to Doughten since,” the affidavit said.

Four days later when Doughten was interviewed by the Cushing police officer, he said that the girl had come to his apartment and took approximately 10 shots, the affidavit said. Doughten said the girl got intoxicated and after her mother came over, they took the girl back to her apartment, the affidavit said.

Doughten, who originally denied touching the girl or having sex with her, later admitted kissing and fondling her, the affidavit said.

“He reported while doing this, he realized what he was doing was wrong and stopped,” the affidavit said.

Doughten said he left his room “to gather himself,” went back to the room and took the girl back to her apartment, the affidavit said.

During the interview, Doughten admitted to providing the girl with alcohol in his apartment and fondling her, but denied having sexual intercourse with her, the affidavit said.
