(Stillwater, Okla.) – A visitor to the Cimarron Correctional Facility has been placed on four years’ probation with extensive conditions for bringing marijuana into the private prison in Cushing.

Crystal Shalay Allen, 29, of Oklahoma City, was ordered last week to have a substance abuse evaluation, perform any recommended follow-up, undergo random drug tests, do 50 hours of community service within six months, and pay $700 in fines and assessments.

Allen had pleaded guilty to the felony charge without an agreement with the prosecution regarding her sentence, which she was given last week by Associate District Judge Stephen Kistler.

Cushing Police Officer Aaron Sherman said when he spoke to Allen on June 25, 2017, at the prison, “Crystal told me she works at a hair salon for a living,” according to his affidavit.

Crystal said after she fixed a lady’s hair, she was given a small bundle wrapped in black tape as payment. Crystal told me she smelled the item and figured it was marijuana.

“Crystal told me she did not smoke marijuana and figured her boyfriend would like to have it.

“Crystal said she put the small bundle in her mouth and brought it into the prison,” where she gave it to her boyfriend through a kiss, the affidavit said.

The Cushing officer had been sent to the prison about 4 p.m. on June 25, 2017, after the prison’s security chief, Larry Cox, had a woman detained who brought in what he believed to be marijuana, the affidavit said.

The prison’s security chief said that he was advised by an employee that two inmates were acting unusually and wanted to use the restroom after being in visitation only a short time, the affidavit said.

“Chief Cox said due to the behavior he spoke with Crystal and asked if she had brought any contraband inside the facility,” which she initially denied, the affidavit said.

“Chief Cox said he then conducted a strip search,” of both inmates, one of whom had nothing on him, but the other did and complied with an order to spit it out, the affidavit said.

Asked about the item he spit out, the inmate told him it was marijuana, the affidavit said.

“Crystal then later admitted to him she had brought it in and gave it to him through a kiss,” the affidavit said.

Since Allen’s sentence was deferred, she will not have a criminal record if she successfully completes the terms of her probation.
