Dwayne Snelson, a Cushing resident, passed away on August 15, 2008 in the Cushing Regional Hospital at the age of 76 years.

Funeral services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing and will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2008 in the Presbyterian Church in Cushing with Reverend Tom Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Euchee Valley Memorial Park.

The son of the late Joe Snelson and Iris (Sutton) Snelson, Dwayne was born on October 21, 1931 in Oklahoma City. Dwayne was raised in Oklahoma City, graduating from Classen High School in 1949.

On November 29, 1951 Dwayne entered the United States Air Force where he served with the 124th ACW Squadron as an Airman 1st Class. After receiving his honorable discharge on June 25, 1953 Dwayne was assigned to the Air National Guard in Oklahoma City.

Dwayne attended Central State University, graduating from there with a degree in Physical Education. Dwayne had worked as the Physical Education Director for the YMCA in Enid and Corpus Christi, TX. In 1971 Dwayne began working for State Farm Insurance as an agent in Guthrie, OK. He was then promoted to District Manager and transferred to Oklahoma City for one year and then to Lawton, OK for 7 years. In 1987 he decided to move to Cushing and become an agent again.

Dwayne had been a member of the Kiwanis, was past President of the Life Underwriters while in Lawton, and was past President and Vice-President of the Cushing Country Club. His family and friends will best remember Dwayne as being very active and athletic. He was a man that loved golf. Over his lifetime he made 7 holes in one and his proudest accomplishment was making one of those on a Par 4.

His survivors include his wife Patty, whom he married on March 11, 1980 in Lawton, OK; four sons, Dennis Snelson and his wife Janet of Meridian, OK, Chris Snelson of Chickasha, OK, Joe Snelson of Los Angeles, CA, and Cody Lovelace and his wife Dedra, of Cushing, OK; three daughters, Robin Snelson of Los Angeles, CA, Lori Clark and her husband Tom of Broken Arrow, OK and Alisa Lovelace and her husband Mike of Lawton, OK; eleven grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, one brother, Carl Snelson, preceded Dwayne in death.
