(Loyal, Okla.) – Cushing cross country teams traveled to Loyal Saturday morning to compete in the Lomega Cross Country Invitational, their first event of the 2015 season. In all, 23 Tiger runners participated.
Cushing varsity boy’s opened the event, led by last year’s state qualifier Paul Giddeon who finished the two-mile course in 11:42. Other Tigers competing were Parker Ramsey, Parker Griffeth, and Dakota Norman.
Capturing a team 2nd Place finish, the varsity lady Tigers were led by Joannie Adkisson who finished the one-mile course in 6:38, placing 6th place overall. Other Lady Tigers contributing were Ariya Regnier, Kyleigh Leverich, Braelyn Berlowitz, Nadia Mooreland, Kelsey Lauerman, Kenzi Carmen, Jalea Martin, Karlea Jones, Faith Wallace, Elizabeth Criner, Hunter Tankersley, and Aly Carpenter.
Capturing the junior high boys team championship, and led by first place finisher Evan Kennedy, who finished the one-mile course in 5:50, the Tigers had no problem cruising to team victory. Championship contributors included Keaton Crooks, Kody Driskell, Brandon Anderson, and Braden Tull.
In the final run of the morning, the elementary division included Cushing 5th grader Blaze Berlowitz who placed 7th overall.
First year Coach Casie Brannon said, “I was pleased with the effort Saturday. We still have much work to do, but with the attitude these kids have, nothing is impossible.”
Tiger runners will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to Henryetta to participate in the Henryetta Invitational at Nichols Park. The event begins at 8:20 a.m. with Jr. High girls.
