There is now a ‘last call’ 90 day window of opportunity to purchase memorial pavers for the south facing restroom walls at Downtown Centennial Park in Cushing. Depending on the size of the bricks purchased there will be room for between another 50 to 100 to complete those walls. After deducting the cost of the bricks and installation the remainder of the proceeds will go into a maintenance fund for the park. The east and west walls nearest the sidewalk will be addressed during Phase 2.
Order forms for the Centennial Pavers may be picked up at SpiritBank, Bank of Cushing or Mila’s Fabrics.
As for the children’s hand print tiles; ‘We are waiting for more frames to be built so we can get them framed and mounted on the walls,’ said Lynda Cummings, chairman of the Design Committee who’s been the leader of this project. ‘It was very successful and they add so much to the park! We’re excited about getting them all on display.’
Activities at the park thus far in 2008; the Cushing Chamber of Commerce based its annual Christmas Parade in front of Centennial Park, Cushing Arts and Humanities Council utilized Centennial Park for its annual meeting which hosted a professional storyteller, SpiritBank hosted a watermelon/and ice cream social last month for about 75 of their Gold Club members, DCMS held a downtown safety/security meeting there in April, the CHS Alumni Association presented the Red Dirt Rangers there during Memorial Day week-end, the Downtown Rodeo Roundup was held there earlier this month and a Stillwater radio station held a live broadcast with members of the area group ‘From the Ashes’ performing on stage last Friday. More activities are on tap and will be highlighted in coming weeks.
‘It’s certainly drawing positive attention to downtown Cushing which was the intention’, said Reiley.
Downtown Cushing Centennial Park was made possible in large part through grants from the Oklahoma Centennial Commission, the Geographic Club, GRDA, the Fraternal Order of Police and many other area contributors of time, labor, money and other resources.
A sign listing these contributors will be put in place upon completion.
