Cushing – This morning at about 3:08 a.m. Cushing Police Officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of South Little in regards to an unwanted person at the property. Upon arrival contact was made with the unwanted male by officers. During the course of the contact the suspect produced a handgun and pointed the handgun at two bystanders at the scene.
Officer gave multiple commands for the suspect to drop his weapon. The suspect continued to threaten individuals nearby with the handgun disregarding commands given. A Cushing Police Officer fired one shot at the suspect.
Paramedics from the Cushing Fire Department responded and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations has been called in to investigate the officer involved shooting. The officer involved has been placed on paid routine leave pending the outcome of the investigation by OSBI. Due to the ongoing investigation the suspect and officers names are not being released at this time.
