(Stillwater, Okla.) — Western Road was closed for several hours this morning after a suspect in a business burglary lost control of his vehicle at the curve from Hall of Fame Avenue onto Western, Stillwater Police Captain Kyle Gibbs said in a news release today.

“His vehicle exited the roadway and (rolled) several times before finally coming to rest in a backyard.

“The subject sustained very serious injuries during the crash and was flown to OU Medical Center for continued treatment.

“He is still hospitalized, but in stable condition at the time of this release,” Gibbs said this afternoon.

Stillwater police were sent to a burglary alarm call at the Game Stop, 533 N. Perkins Road, at 1:22 a.m. today, the release said.

“Upon arrival, officers encountered two subjects at the back of the store, who quickly fled the scene,” the release said.

One suspect, Markez L. Thompson, a 19-year-old man from Omaha, Neb., “ran on foot and was apprehended quickly by officers,” the release said.

Thompson was arrested for second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and attempting to elude officers, the release said.

Similar charges will be presented on the second suspect, who remained hospitalized this afternoon, the release said.

That suspect had driven from the scene westbound on Hall of Fame Avenue while being pursued by officers, the release said.

“The pursuit continued westbound on Hall of Fame through the OSU campus,” and ended after the driver lost control of his vehicle, the release said.

“Western Road was closed for several hours while crews from Stillwater Police Department, Stillwater Fire Department, Oklahoma Natural Gas and Stillwater Power cleared the scene and collected evidence,” the release said.

The investigation at Game Stop “revealed that the suspects gained entry by cutting a hole in the roof of the business.

“Several pieces of stolen merchandise taken from Game Stop and tools believed to have been used for cutting the hole in the Game Stop roof were found in and around the suspects’ vehicle,” the release said.
