(Stillwater, Okla.) – A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of a woman who failed to appear in Payne County District Court on July 1 to be sentenced for possessing marijuana within the Cimarron Correctional Facility in Cushing more than 18 months ago.
Reba Brooks, 26, of Oklahoma City, had been released on a personal recognizance bond after pleading guilty on Dec. 19, 2014, to possessing contraband within the Cushing prison a year earlier, court records show.
Cushing Police Officer Bill McCarty had been sent to the Cimarron Correctional Facility on Dec. 28, 2013, on a report of illegal narcotics being brought into the prison, according to his affidavit.
Brooks was sitting at a table during visitation when a corrections officer saw an inmate “retrieve an item from a bag of chips sitting on the table and place the object into his sock,” the affidavit said.
When the inmate was searched, three items, all wrapped in black electrical tape, containing a green leafy substance were found inside his sock, the affidavit said.
“Reba Brooks was removed from visitation and taken to the conference room.
“The bag of chips was retrieved from visitation and another item wrapped in black electrical tape was found to be inside the bag of chips,” which also contained a green leafy substance that tested positive as marijuana, the affidavit said.
Possession of contraband within a penal facility carries a maximum penalty of a five-year prison sentence and a $1,000 fine on conviction, court records show.
