(STILLWATER, OKLA. / June 30, 2015) — Motorists driving in Stillwater may notice “Bridge Out” signs on Main Street south of downtown.
The City of Stillwater Transportation Department is working with Meridian Contracting to rehabilitate the Main Street bridge over Stillwater Creek. Work began on June 29 and will last until November of this year.
During construction, vehicles traveling through the area of the bridge will have to follow detour signs in order to pass through:
Traveling northbound on Main Street: Vehicles can follow 32nd Avenue westbound to Western Road or travel northbound on Perkins Road (U.S. 177) into city limits.Traveling southbound on Main Street: Vehicles must follow 18th Avenue eastbound to then follow southbound on Perkins Road (U.S. 177).
Work to be completed on this bridge includes removing and replacing delaminated concrete to protect reinforcing steel within the bridge deck, replacing expansion joints, guard rail replacement and repainting steel beams to prevent rust and corrosion.
This bridge is part of a $2 million bridge rehabilitation project that also includes work on the Sangre Road bridge over Stillwater Creek with work slated to start in November. These bridges were selected after a bi-annual inspection took place and the Transportation Department worked with BKL, Inc. to develop a plan to address needed repairs.
